Meet the Team

Take a look at our services

Physiotherapy

  • Musculoskeletal physiotherapists treat problems associated with muscles, bones, nerves, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and joints. And don’t forget, if you can’t get to us, we offer virtual Physio services too.

  • A friendly welcome, where you will be asked questions about your problem and really listened to. You will then have a physical examination which will look into your movements and affected areas. A diagnosis and treatment plan will then be discussed with you relating to your particular goals.

  • Anyone & everyone! We treat any person with an ache, pain or injury. Or if you’d like to work on injury prevention we are here for you too.

Sports Massage

  • Choose either 30 minutes or a full hour of deep massage aimed at relieving tight and tender areas of muscle (sometimes called ‘knots’). Potential benefits are relaxation, reduced fatigue, reduced muscle soreness and prevention of muscle injury.

  • Your therapist will ask you a few questions to ensure there are no contraindications to you receiving Sports Massage and pressure preferences. Then you can expect to feel relaxed, soothed, stretched and energised by the end of the treatment. Bliss!

  • Sports Massage is not limited to those who play sports. Is it for anyone who would like a more deep tissue massage to help with tension, aches and pains.

Acupuncture

  • We offer Western Style acupuncture as well as dry needling and trigger point treatment. It is often included as an adjunct to the physiotherapist’s treatment session.

  • Fine needles placed according to the diagnosis and plan discussed with your physio. For more detailed information about how Acupuncture works and how it may help you please visit the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists website here.

  • There are certain health conditions that may prevent you being eligible for acupuncture treatment or you may have a particular condition that requires caution.

Please contact us to have a chat beforehand if you’re unsure and read more about Acupuncture via the AACP website here.

Climbing Physio

  • We can provide physiotherapy on the climbing wall or in the bouldering rooms, or indeed, on the hangboard. We can also work alongside the climbing coaches with you, to help you get the most out of your individual climbing programme. Whatever it takes to get you back to the dizzy heights asap!

  • A friendly welcome, where you will be asked questions about your problem and really listened to. You will then have a physical examination which will look into your movements and affected areas. We utilise a number of screening tools as well as the Tindeq Dynamometer to get more precise testing if required and guide you back to your best.

  • Anyone & everyone! Whether you are new to climbing, or fancy pushing yourself more, we will tailor the session to your needs. We treat any person with an ache, pain or injury. Or if you’d like to work on injury prevention we are here for you too. Choose either 30 mins or 1 hr session.

Injury Prevention

  • Our 'Injury Prevention' Physiotherapy service is designed to proactively address potential musculoskeletal issues and reduce the risk of injuries. We employ evidence-based assessments and tailored exercise programs to identify and address areas of weakness, imbalances, or movement limitations that may lead to injuries over time. By focusing on preventive measures, we aim to keep you active, resilient, and performing at your best.

  • During your session, our experienced physiotherapists will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your musculoskeletal health, taking into account your medical history, lifestyle, and fitness goals. We will then develop a personalised plan that includes targeted exercises, stretches, and techniques to enhance your strength, flexibility, and mobility. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to protect your body from potential injuries and optimise your physical performance.

  • This Physio service is suitable for individuals of all ages and activity levels who are looking to maintain their musculoskeletal health, prevent injuries, or enhance their athletic performance.  FAQs

  • No you do not. As Chartered Physiotherapists we are autonomous practitioners who are qualified to assess and diagnose, therefore you can come directly to us and cut out the extra time and hassle of seeing your GP. If we think your GP should be involved in your care, we will discuss this with you as part of your personalised treatment programme.

  • We have an easy online booking system that you can access here. If you’d prefer to speak with us then please feel free to contact via the email or form or give us a call!

  • Our treatment room is inside The Quay Climbing Centre. We are situated on the 1st Floor

    Old Electricity Building

    Quay Climbing Centre

    Haven Road

    Haven Banks

    Exeter

    EX2 8AX

There is ample parking either on-street in Haven Road, or in the private car park next to the Ten Pin Bowling, or there is a council car park next to the Climbing Centre just off Michael Browning Way. You can see the various car parking via this link.

  • If you arrive for an appointment with us before 10am when the Quay Climbing Centre opens, you might see the main blue doors closed, don't worry you're in the right place! Your Physio will come and let you in at your appointment time.

At all other times please feel free to wait in the Cafe on the first floor and have a coffee (or delicious brownie!). Or you may prefer to wait near the Treatment Room door and watch the climbers in action. Please do not enter the Physio room as there may be someone already having treatment. Your Physio will come and collect you when it’s time for your appointment.

  • On the initial visit your Physiotherapist will need to perform a thorough assessment. This begins with a talk about the problem and your general health. This is called a subjective assessment and involves us asking you a lot of detailed questions to build an accurate picture of you and your problem.

You will then have a physical assessment which will look into your movements and identify the affected tissues. This helps your Physiotherapist make an accurate diagnosis of what the problem is. This will be explained to you at this stage. There is usually time to start treatment at your first visit. If your problem is particularly complex, then the assessment can take the full 30 minutes with a treatment plan commenced at your follow-up session, however if you book an extended session then treatment will be commenced within that time.

  • Physiotherapy appointments last either 30 minutes for both initial assessments and follow-up appointments or you can choose an hour long extended session if you feel that your problem is more complex or you'd like to cover more than one issue.

For most people 30 minutes is adequate to do a thorough assessment for their initial appointment. However, if you wish to go through more than one area of concern (neck pain and ankle injury for example), as well as having treatment within your initial session, then we recommend booking an extended physiotherapy appointment for an hour. Similarly, if you'd like an extra long treatment session at your follow-up, then feel free to book an extended returning client appointment.

  • Suitable clothing and underwear are required to allow the clinician to asses the site of the injury. Ideally, a pair of shorts in the case of lower limb or lumbar spine assessment, and either a tank top or suitable bra to allow the clinician to assess the trunk, shoulder and neck area.

  • Yes they can with your consent. If you specifically require a chaperone or are attending with a child under 16, then we can accommodate you, please let us know beforehand when making your booking.

  • Unfortunately due to the restriction of such a fantastic old building, there is no disabled access to the first floor where the treatment room is situated. There is a flight of stairs at the entrance to the building, to the reception area and to the cafe. Please contact the Clinic if you are concerned about accessing the Clinic.

  • All appointments must be paid for in full in advance. This is easily done when booking online here. If your Physio books your follow-up with you in the session, then we will take card payment at the time. We prefer not to take cash anymore.

  • We are happy to provide you with a full receipt for you to take back to your insurer to claim payment back from them, however we do not invoice insurers directly on your behalf. We recommend that you liaise with your insurers stating that we are your 'preferred Physio provider' and then proceed to claim back from them, as we require payment upfront. If in doubt please speak to your insurance company.

  • Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists’ day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged the cost of that appointment. If you arrive late for your appointment, we will do our best to accommodate you, but please bear in mind that this may not be possible, and that your full appointment fee will stand. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please let us know and we will be happy to help.

  • Ha! There is no such thing as too many questions!
